Great Quote

March 14th, 2007

I just found a great quote on StumbleUpon.

“You know the world is going crazy when the best
rapper is a white guy, the best golfer is a black guy,the tallest guy in
the NBA is Chinese, the Swiss hold the America’s Cup, France is accusing
the U.S. of arrogance, Germany doesn’t want to go to war, and the three
most powerful men in America are named Bush, Dick, and Colon.  –Comedian

Math – First “Not-Understanding”

March 14th, 2007

So Math class is going pretty good this year. Although this unit I had a little bit of trouble with the quiz… it was like a brain fart during the quiz. It sucked. I forgot half the methods, but there was one thing that really intrigued me. This thing I had no idea about. I thought we were supposed to fully simplify it past the GCF. Which, now I realize, was impossible with some of the questions. So therefore I had submitted impossible answers. We were only supposed to grab the GCF, and leave it alone. If I had realized that, it would’ve been all cool. But no, I lost 3 questions to it, and then a couple more because of some stupid thing that I realized I’d done wrong about 5 minutes after I’d finished the test.

But yeah, other than that fiasco, every thing’s going pretty alright. Not much homework tonight, which is always nice…

Web-Design Class is Already There! Doh!

March 13th, 2007

Alllrighty then.

Starting to post more often because I’ve got this extension for Firefox that reminds me whenever I look at it…

About that one web-design thing I talked about in my last post….
For the third trimester, I got into a class called “computer communication” or something. But we’re learning HTML (at least the other students are. I know it.) So I mention PHP to the teacher, he says he’s never tried it. I show him some examples of account systems, file storage, SQL databases, and he seemed interested. So maybe I can either teach part of the class, or talk to the teacher about PHP, and maybe get him to teach it.

Anyway, we’re going to be making websites, and competing in teams (like The Apprentice). So most of the class wants me on their team… I wonder what’s going to happen there…

WiredForWar.org is going well… The newsletter team, however small it is, has been assembled, and we’re working on the newsletter. Someone made a comic strip for it, which I think is pretty cool. Hopefully once the first one is sent out, we’ll get some more people on the Newsletter team.

SServ is dying. I think I might move on now unless somebody actually starts using it (or suggests more things to add)… It’s boring because there’s nothing my work on SServ is going for any more.

SServ, Wiredforwar, Web Design Class, All That Good Stuff.

March 7th, 2007

In my last post (from quite awhile ago) I stated I was working on a clone of a past student server project.
Well, I’ve completed it. It’s called SServ, and it’s located at http://sserv.org. Not as many people as I would’ve liked have registered yet… but we’ll see how it progresses.
Right now I’m working on an add-on to SServ called SAud. Kind of a lame name, but whatever. It’s a place where you can submit songs, and listen to them in a flash-based player. It supports MP3 only, which makes all of the iTunes users sad, but MP3 just plain rocks. Anyway, the basics of the site have already been completed, some things I’d like to do with it are…

  • Add a rating system
  • Add an account system where you can put favorites, show your submissions, etc.
  • Add a comment system
  • Add a search system (this should be pretty easy)
  • Some more stuff that I haven’t thought of yet.

So, yeah. It’s pretty cool I think that I’m able to make stuff like this now. PHP rocks the socks. Majorly. It allows for highly interactive sites on all levels. The only thing that can surpass it right now (in my mind) is Flash, which I’m not too great at.

Anyway, on to the next subject.

People at my school don’t know how to make websites. Unless you’re talking about MySpace or something, they have no idea what HTML, PHP, Flash, or anything is. So I really want to do an after school web design class. I think it’d be fun for me to teach other people what I’ve learned, and I think it’d be fun to see the ideas and creations other people get out of it. It might even spawn a big group project to create a website, who knows.
But yeah, I’m going to either e-mail the principal tonight or talk to him tomorrow about my idea, since I think it’d be great fun.

Next subject.

The machines forum seems like it’s actually pulling itself together, now. We’ve got a new section for M2 Development progress only, no ideas or messing around. Just work on the new version. We’re also gathering a team for a newsletter we’re going to send out every week or so about the happenings of WiredforWar. It may attract some old members back, and keep current members up to date and participating on all of the subjects being discussed at WiredforWar.org. I hope it goes well, because it’d be great if our site were to get a little bit more active and popular.

That’s all for now. Hope I remember to post again soon…
