New Computer – Microcenter Sucks
Well, last weekend I attempted to put together the new PC that Dad got. Unfortunatelly, I did not know that newer PCs had an extra 12 volt power supply. So we took it in, and they showed us. In the process, however, the tech guy stuck his hand in the processor fan and I heard a loud “craghghgh!”. After he showed us that, the PC was reveiled to shut down after about 15 seconds. The tech guy said to put more thermal gel on the processor and it should work. I went home, put more gel on, sat back on the fan, and turned on the computer. To my not so suprise, the processor fan would not spin. So we took it back to Microcenter, and then we got their stupid stuff.
“I’m sorry sir, but you cannot return a processor after it’s box has been opened.” Wait a second…. I can’t return a processor a week after I got it when it’s broken?!?! That’s like getting a new DVD, opening the box, and finding it broken in half, and they won’t let you return it. Then the tech manager came in and started to try and pin it on me. We started to ask how you would break an electro-magnetic processor fan.
“Well I don’t know about your son’s ability to install a processor.” he said to my dad, trying to pin it on me. It’s not like I threw it against a wall or anything, it just doesn’t work. Give us a new one! Finally after tons of crap, they gave us a new one. It doesn’t cost them a cent to send that broken fan back to Intel, they could’ve just given us a new one without all the crap they gave us. Now they just lost a customer worth thousands of dollars. I hate Microcenter.
Now I’ve just got to put together my new PC, and I’m all set. Dad’s new one is really awesome. It can run Unreal II at 1280 x 1024 at full graphics, and it still goes fast. Quake 4 also runs seamlessly. Should on my new one too
Dude, I feel your pain..
I used to work at Micro Crap..
They could care less about the customer
the repair staff is a bunch of monkees
the service department only exists to extort money out of you
Yeah, we’ve gone CompUSA only from now on.
That situation was ridiculous. I’m glad some people share my point of view!
depends on which MC you go to… i know the one i used to work at has a great service department. it’s the rest of the store that you have to worry about. and our store wouldn’t hesitate to replace your cpu/fan. sorry you had a bad experience at ONE microcenter and decided to take your business to the going-out-of-business choice instead… good choice? hmm
I agree… MicroCenter Sucks big hairy hangin ones…. I recieved one of their flyers that had an in store sale (Minneapolis store) … So (that day) I drove 50 miles to buy a laptop… and of course they didn’t have it… In fact I found out, they only had (1) one… It was a “come on” to get people in the store, then they tried to sell me something else…. When I called the corporate office to see if they had another at a diffrent location, they said no… then when I told them it was poor store policy to waste customers time by advertising product they didn’t have… Guess how I was answered… You guessed it… they hung up the phone… I’ll never shop there again…
Same issue of them providing KY Jelly instead of service.
Below filed with the BBB
Computer was purchased with NOD32 add-on protection installed. MicroSoft, Intuit, etc software cause a non-boot system error. The restore disc included would not work. The unit was taken back within the first 30 days and diagnosed for 1.5 hours with the help center personnel. They got it working by removing almost all the need software which was all within the listed specs to run. The unit was then taken back home. After using the unit for less than 30 days it developed the same issue. In trying to use the restore disc again it still failed to return the unit to factory default settings. So after repeated issues but limping along it was returned to Micro Center to be looked at again. This time it was left under Work Order 235579 with amount du of $0. After three or so days I was called to pick it up and told my one year warranty would now at the 2 month mark would cost money to restore. First and foremost the unit is not as advertised for functionality. Secondly the restore disc failed to work meaning I had to drive 40 more miles multiple times for their warranty and product failure. Now comes the best part. Upon going to pick up the unit they required money because their unit did not function as advertised and the restore disc failed. I will give them credit though the tube of KY jelly is not apparent until after you purchase. The worst part is I chose Micro Center instead of the Best Buy 1/2 mile form my house because of their reputation. Never again see blogs and post before ever considering a purchase form Micro Center.
