Writing from New York

March 27th, 2006

Writing in New york right now, on Dad’s cool new pocket PC he got from his new job. There are many benefits caused from the receiving of this new product.

1) I get his old one! :)
2)I get to use his new one
3)Dad can skype me on it
4)I can skype people on it.

It’s really cool here in NY. We saw the blue man group, and it was awesome. It was really funny, Dad got chosen as a volunteer to get painted and slammed against a canvas, and he got his head get put into a giant bucket of jello. Anyone who hasn’t seen this show already absolutely must see it eventually. It’s a really funny and awesome show.

Gotta go!

Defend The City 2 Multiplayer – Engine Up And Running!

March 20th, 2006

That’s right! The Defend The City 2 Multiplayer engine, including a master server, has now been tested and it WORKS! I tested it over the internet and not over the lan, and it works! Here’s a screen shot of the main menu just to give you a taste of what Defend The City 2 Online will look like. It will be released along with Defend The City 2, but it will be a seperate executable. It will look just a little bit different from the single player mode.
Happy spring break!

Thank God For Weekends

March 18th, 2006

I am so glad that it’s still a weekend… I love just hanging out and winding down. Unfortunatelly, Monday has to come sometime, and Sunday nights become nightmares for fear of tomorrow. On Sunday I’m gonna try and get most of my homework done so that I can relax for the rest of the day. The only problem with that plan is that I’m a huge procrastinator. I’ll probably end up finishing homework at 9PM. Ah, well. At least I have tonight free ;) .

Happy weekend everyone.

Defend The City 2 Multiplayer Progress

March 16th, 2006

Yes, Defend The City 2 will have multiplayer support, and yes, it will be better than the old Defend The City 1 Beta Multiplayer. Some features of the new multiplayer version that will be included are:

  • A Coop Game Mode
  • A Versus Split Screen Game Mode
  • New turrets specifically designed for Multiplayer (Thanks to Ryan for Idea)
  • A Master Server List! YAY!
  • Chat
  • MAYBE a buddy list. MAYBE.

Right now It’s coming out well. The Master Server list is done, all I have to work on now is the engine itself. I’m gonna base it off of DTC1’s Beta multiplayer, but improve it a lot.

One thing that I’m hung up on is whether to integrate it into the single player Defend The City 2, or to include it as an extra executable. I’m leaning more toward integration, because it would mean resource sharing and a bunch of other features.

Oh, and I’ve pretty much given up on the Samson Network ;) .

Life Going OK – Move to Chicago Commencing

March 7th, 2006
Dad’s leaving next week for Chicago, so to spend some time with him we watched Alien:Resurrection together. It was a pretty good movie, much more violent than the first Alien, but it was still very good.

It’s really too bad that I’m moving at this point in my life, as the high school had just agreed to give me a tech job (once I got to the highschool) and I’ve met Mr. Tipton, who also has the same interests as me. I really don’t think anyone in my class will really care or even notice that I’m gone, maybe they’ll miss my tech support ;).

I hope at my new school I’ll gain back my reputation to be handy with technology, and hopefully meet some friends who have the same or at least close to the same interests. Usually adults don’t trust kids with expensive technology. I’ve earned a good reputation for that here, hopefully I can gain it there. I hope the whole move will work out well.

Project Stats:
Samson Network – No Progress
Defend The City 2 – Added Pulse Turret. Beta expected next week.
Purple Community Web Site – Site has been made, with calendar and message board.
Student Server To Go – Trying to script a new method of uploading so the teachers do not have to worry about viruses
Purple Trivia – Making a new version built on a whole new engine, also trying to convert to Java for the sake of the Macintosh. (In case you didn’t know, this is a trivia game for the purple community that I developed a LONG time ago.)

And that’s pretty much it. We also got a new BMW X5 yesterday. It’s a pretty cool SUV with all kinds of gizmos and gadgets. Too bad it doesn’t have a GPS :-P .
